Hey everyone! RobBarracuda here, and it’s time to talk about the newest release from the Adult Swim Singles Program.
This week’s featured artist is Chromatics, a band that originally started off as lo-fi punk but then morphed into a post-punk inspired synthpop group after various line-up changes. The song we’re given this week is titled “Shadow”, the newest single from their upcoming album Dear Tommy, and it sounds every bit as good as anything from their last two releases. “Shadow” brings the characteristically melancholy sound that’s been a trademark of their last two releases, with minimal percussion, ambient synths and guitar, and the echoing somber vocals of Ruth Radelet, singing about always seeing the shadows of her past (possibly a relationship of some kind) and how she needs to let go. “Shadow” also feels appropriately cinematic, as the lyrics work well with vocals and music to convey the depressing imagery that the song clearly wants you to think about. All in all, a wonderful song that’s a great addition to this year’s compilation.
You can stream the song below, and of course you can download this and all the other singles here. Let us know what you think of the song in the comments, and of course I’ll see you next week when the next single drops.
