After the big success of the drive-in event on Santa Monica back in March and the special screenings they made for Comic-Con, The Adult Swim Drive-In Tour is coming bigger!
For those millennials who don’t know the concept, a drive-in theater is an outdoor movie screen located inside a large parking area for cars, where families can drive there and enjoy films from the comfort of their cars and buy some delicious snacks during the intermission from food trucks or snack bars. It was a popular place to go between the 30’s and 60’s. It’s still a thing though.
The lineup of events was announced last week – which means that I’m writing this news a week late, but eh, whatever. During the next 6 weeks, Adult Swim Presents will make a tour of outdoor screenings around the US in 15 stops, where they’ll showcase shows in production and things you’ve never/rarely seen from Adult Swim, such as exclusive unaired episodes from Rick and Morty, Robot Chicken, Squidbillies, Mike Tyson Mysteries, Tim and Eric’s Bedtime Stories, and Black Jesus, as well as the upcoming miniseries Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter; a clip from season two of Mr. Pickles, unaired Adult Swim pilots and more goodies. Content will be updated periodically throughout the tour.
The episodes will be projected from a 40-foot inflatable screen, and friends can share a car and go together, or just take the bus and sit on the lawn, maybe bring a chair or a blanket. The smell coming from the food trucks will give you hunger and fill it. Vouchers for a free meal from one of the food trucks will be handed out on site for those who come early. You might play trivia and win some Adult Swim merch and swag. Special sponsorships from Cricket Wireless, Panamount Pictures’s Scouts Guide for the Zombie Apocalypse and Playstation™ Vue will be ready to get your attention. It will be a good night for sure.
These are the 15 cities where the Adult Swim Drive-In will arrive. If you’re living on/are capable to go to one o those places, go to adultswimpresents.com to RSVP and check dates, sites and more details. You must be 18 and up and ready to go:
