<—- Week 3: D∆WN – “Serpentine Fire”
Week 5: Sannhet – “Short Life” —->
Hey everyone. RobBarracuda here, and it’s time to talk about the newest release from the 2016 Adult Swim Singles Program.
This week’s single is “Mirage Trooper” by Clark (full name Chris Clark), an experimental electronic producer from the UK who has been active since 2001. His Singles contribution is a particularly busy and intricate one, as right away you’re greeted with layers of clattering percussive beats, warbled bass that fades in and out of the mix rather quickly, and various glitchy and industrialized noises. This continues throughout the whole song, even adding in samples of crowd chants at points, and just when you think the entire song will continue on this path, things switch up in the back half of the song as it fades out to the sound of vast and far-reaching ambiance. It’s a really great shift in mood and tone in my opinion, as through the first half of the song I’m picturing a night that takes place within an interstellar night club, and when the beat changes I can imagine a camera pulling back to reveal the scope and scale of whatever strange unknowable galaxy this club could be located in. A very unique song to include in the singles program, and I’m looking forward to whatever comes next week. You can stream this song below, and you can download it for free right here.
