<—- Week 5: Sannhet – “Short Life”
Week 7: Ryan Hemsworth feat. Keaton Henson and Mitski – “Wait” —->
Hey everyone. RobBarracuda here, and it’s time to talk about the newest release from the 2016 Adult Swim Singles Program.
This week’s single is from two frequent collaborators in the current hip hop scene: producer Thelonious Martin – who’s done production work for rappers like Curren$y, Joey Bada$$, and Hodgy Beats – and rapper Joey Purp. Fresh off the heels of Purp’s most recent mixtape iiiDrops (which Thelonious contributed some beats to), the two are back with a new single, “Bomaye”, and it is incredible. The first half of the song is upbeat and soulful, with Joey delivering some intensely passionate bars throughout, and after a brief intermission, the beat switches up to being darker and more intense. Purp’s flow and lyrics similarly increases in dark intensity, dropping rhymes about the harshness of gun violence in the streets, and it’s amazing. Thelonius and Joey always work well together, and this song is no exception: a straight-up fire collaboration between two great minds presenting two opposite moods that mesh incredibly well, and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next from both of them as well as what comes next from the Singles program. You can stream “Bomaye” below, and you can download it for free right here.
