2016 Adult Swim Singles Program, Week 10: Jlin – “Downtown”

<—- Week 9: Blanck Mass – “D7-D5”

Week 11: Protomartyr – “Born To Be Wine” —->

Hey everyone. RobBarracuda here, and it’s time to talk about the newest release from the 2016 Adult Swim Singles Program.

This week’s single is another one from the footwork genre (which kicked off the Singles program thanks to DJ Paypal), this time from Indiana-based producer Jlin. She’s been around since 2008, but she’s only recently put out studio material with both her full-length debut album and an EP coming out last year. “Downtown” is pretty typical of the genre with its glitchy spastic electronic patterns and equally frenetic percussive elements, complete with heavy emphasis on loud booming bass, and there’s also some neat touches with sampled vocals that frequently “woo!” and proclaim “bullshit” at odd intervals. You can stream “Downtown” below, and you can download it for free right here.
