<—- Week 17: Jenny Hval – “Period Piece”
Week 19: Captain Murphy – “Crowned” —->
Hey everyone. RobBarracuda here, and it’s time to talk about the newest release from the 2016 Adult Swim Singles Program.
Experimental pop artist Mica Levi has been quite busy these past few years, having released a new album with her band Micachu and the Shapes, and she recently composed the score for the 2014 science fiction film Under The Skin, for which she was nominated for a handful of industry awards. Her offering for [as] singles this week is a song called “Clothes Wear Me” featuring guest vocals from KEVIN (as to which Kevin, I have no clue. Probably not Ed Edd n’ Eddy Kevin, though). The song is a very moody, low-key, and cinematic tune, with the opening fade-in and ending fade-out making it feel like an excerpt out of an indie drama film. The piano chords keep a pretty consistent melody despite constantly switching the rhythm, and the percussion has a lot of off-kilter elements like it’s absorbing the sounds of random rumbling objects within the room. The vocals are very mumbled and melancholic, and the lyrics don’t make much sense on first listen, but the latter doesn’t matter much since the song is clearly more about setting a mood for a scene than anything else, and it succeeds in that respect. You can stream “Clothes Wear Me” down below, and be sure to download it and the other released singles right here.
