Week 22: Mike WiLL Made-It feat. Eearz – “Pull Ova” —->

Hey everyone. RobBarracuda here, and it’s time to talk about the newest release from the 2016 Adult Swim Singles Program.

Hailing from Daytona Beach, FL, Kitty’s made quite a name for herself with her own distinct style of laid-back ambient rap music, having released seven EPs since 2011. Last year, she started a crowdfunding campaign to fund a proper debut album, titled Miami Garden Club, and we now have the first single from that album courtesy of Adult Swim, titled “Asari Love Song”, which was evidently inspired by Kitty being way into Mass Effect. Much like with last year’s “Drink Tickets”, Kitty’s abandoned her usual cloud rap style and has chosen to go straight-up pop. This time around, however, she mixes things up by going full-on 1980’s pop, with all the production and instrumental tones you’d expect, even including a shredding glam-rock guitar solo for good measure. The glitzed-up retro approach is a fantastic fit for Kitty’s gorgeous vocals who fully embraces the aesthetic like it’s second nature to her. It’s a fantastic song that has me stoked for the full album, and from one Floridian to another: keep doing the sunshine state proud, Kitty.  You can stream “Asari Love Song” down below, and be sure to download it and the other released singles right here.
