As seen in the last recap, I didn’t like the episode at all. It was one big flashback that we all know, and it wasted away the whole episode. This one was sorted different. Again, we got a flashback tale, but it was a new flashback. Anyway, here’s the tale of the Mangekyo Sharingan and how the Uchihas are.
The episode starts off with basically the end of the last episode. Which is very stupid, mind you, cause both episodes came out on THE VERY SAME DAY!! Why did Pierrot need to waste 2 1/2 minutes on a recap that was a double feature? Moving on, Sasuke now knows that Madara, one of the Leaf founders, was the co-conspirator with Itachi in murdering the Uchihas. Yes, but isn’t Madara dead, or should be after all this time? Nope, as we saw, he’s still alive, and it, as Itachi explains, functions as discerning one’s reality from another. Basically, Sasuke thinks Madara is dead, like he thought Itachi at one point was a kind older brother. It was all an act. There’s some more flashbacks, and both of the bros fight each other with genjutsu. Even though Sasuke doesn’t have the Mangekyo Sharingan like Itachi since he couldn’t kill Naruto, he is “confident” in taking on Itachi. Zetsu is just watching all this from the sidelines, as he can see how the two are gauging each other out with their genjutsu.
Then we get some info on the Mangekyo Sharingan. The person who awakens it goes to the darkness, but the more you use it, the more you lose the light. Do you get that? In short, the more you use this special Sharingan, eventually, you will go blind. It’s essentially a double-edged sword. Sasuke still wants to know who Madara is. Itachi says he’s an exceptional man who not only controlled the 9-Tails, but became Itachi’s mentor. He also knows all about the Mangeko Sharingan. Which, by the way, can do more than just control the 9-Tails. Want to know the most important secret of the Mangekyo Sharingan? Do you want it to be told in flashback story mode?
This is how most of us are all feeling. But Shippuden is also the guy in the pic above. So we have to deal with this shit. So here’s the story, as Sasuke goes somehow in the past with Itachi’s Genjutsu. Madara had a younger brother named Izuna. They fought each other to hone their skills. They awakened their Sharingans, made names for themselves in the village, and then wanted to perfect the Sharingans themselves. So they decided to kill all their precious Uchiha loved ones to do so! Because Uchihas. They both awakened their Mangekyo Sharingans for this, and eventually, Madara became the Uchiha leader.
However, Madara used his Mangekyo too much, and lost all the light in his eyes. He tried to seek it again, but went into despair doing so. So what did he do to get him out of this? Why, he went on towards meditation and found that there is more to life than power, and became a better person for himself and the village.
I’m fucking joking. He literally took out and stole his own brothers eyes, and replaced his blind ones with them. Because again, Uchihas. He gained a new light and this one didn’t fade away. For Madara gained “Eternal Light”. He gained the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. (This can only work through clan members and sacrifices and whatnot.) With this, he gain control of many clans, did make up with the 1st Hokages’s clan, then fought against him, later made the Akatsuki, and orchestrated the 9-Tails attack on the Hidden Leaf.
Because Madara is a “bitter loser”, Itachi decides he will surpass him, and Sasuke will be his new light with his “spare eyes”. All of this to kill him for the eyes to free him of fate of the Uchiha clan. It’s a true Uchiha bond. Sasuke decides to remove his bandages to start the fight again. He saw Itachi’s inner self through the genjutsu, and now he knows what to do. Sasuke will use hatred to beat his brother, while Itachi will use his eyes and stop the dream Sasuke has of killing him. (This is after another round of pointless flashbacks, of course.) They attack each other with many shurikens. They keep dodging and throwing them, until they’re dead even and staring at each other with their Sharingan. Yet somehow, Itachi weaved hand signs to make a Shadow Clone, and attacks Sasuke with another shuriken. But Sasuke uses his new snake powers to to escape Itachi’s attack, and throws a big shuriken at him. Itachi stops it, but it was a ploy to use Chidori on it. He gets Itachi with it, who then turns into genjutsu birds. He kicks Sasuke into a wall, who tries another Chidori. Itachi stops this, and lifts his hand to his Sasuke’s eyes. With three fingers about to take his left eye, he tells Sasuke to “forgive him” for taking his light. The episode ends with Sasuke screaming.
So kids, what did we learn on this episode of Naruto Shippuden? Why, we learned that the Uchihas have and were always a bunch of nutjobs who only strive for more power, now matter what the cost of that would be. Even if it eventually makes them see as much of the world as Stevie Wonder can. Yeah yeah, this narrative will change very soon, but this is very much what the Uchihas are. Also, fuck taking out a eye with a knife, we can use our fingers! You know what else this episode did? It brought back our old friend, Combine Harvester.
Okay, it wasn’t as painstakingly bad as last week, where I should have used it there. But this episode was still bad. We still are suffering through all the flashbacks, and even the news ones have no end to them. We got more original series flashbacks as well, and why can we just have none at all? Oh yeah, it’s Shippuden. We can’t have an episode without it going all flashback city on us. I think it’s a rule Pierrot with Kishi himself made on the animators that they have to include flashbacks, or something bad will happen to them. *Sigh* Another week, another crappy episode with very little happening till the end. 2 Crazy Ass Uchiha Brothers/5.
